Beyond the 4Cs
Diamonds and precious gemstones are aplenty, both online and in traditional jewellery shops. But what sets us apart is not only our expertise in identifying the best ‘4Cs’ combination to optimise your budget but also our network of global ethical suppliers, built up over four generations. Prior to your consultation, we will source an exclusive selection of diamonds that meet and, in some cases, exceed your aspirations. Our qualified GIA gemmologists will educate and guide you, empowering you to choose the right diamond for you.
Our Diamond Promise to You
Our promise is to empower you with transparent, reliable and comparable diamond knowledge to inform and guide your decision. We will sort diamonds for you which are guided by Principles
Analytical & Financial
Prices will vary considerably between diamonds with identical 4Cs. We identify the best Colour, Clarity and Carat weight combination to optimise your budget and find diamonds that make “money and sense”.
We have a large selection of exceptional diamonds to offer you, but we will go beyond our inventory to find the right ones to recommend you. We only propose the diamonds we really believe in and would buy for ourselves. We search far and wide, beyond the reach of most other jewellers, from any ethical source.
We propose diamonds certified by the GIA, the reputed grading authority for the diamond trade worldwide. We will only propose diamonds certified by other laboratories if the grading is verified by us.
Advancing the 4Cs
The 4Cs (Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat) are universal guidelines developed to grade and judge a diamond’s characteristics and therefore its price. It forms the basic knowledge the majority of consumers gather when carrying out research and is therefore what most jewellers solely focus on to define the characteristics of diamonds.
We look beyond this. The 4Cs do not speak of a diamonds beauty, it sparkle nor its brilliance. They do not reflect a diamond’s Make.
It is possible that a selection of diamonds will have identical 4Cs and an identical price – but when viewed and compared, the Make will be incomparable. One diamond will outshine and therefore be more desirable than the others… that is the diamond we seek.
Advancing the 4Cs, the Make is the adoration of the proportions, cut, polish, symmetry, lustre, light-performance and brilliance anyone can see. It essentially what makes the diamond beautiful, prominent and one-of-a-kind.
Diamonds are renowned for their ability to transmit light and scintillate so intensely. We often think of a diamond’s cut as a shape (round, emerald, pear..etc), but a diamond’s cut grade is really about how well a diamond’s facets interact with light.
Savvy+Sand only hand select diamonds that adhere to precision artistry and workmanship that is required to fashion a stone so its proportions, symmetry, and polish deliver the magnificent return of light only possible in a diamond. We recommend only diamonds cut with an Excellent or Very good cut grade.
The colour evaluation of most quality diamonds is based on the absence of colour. A pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, like a drop of pure water, and consequently, a higher value.
At Savvy+Sand we use the GIA D-to-Z colour-grading system which measures the degree of colourlessness in a diamond. Each diamond offered to our clients is compared under controlled lighting and precise viewing conditions to masterstones of established colour value.
Savvy+Sand specialise in white diamonds which exhibit grades from D to G and fancy coloured diamonds ranging in all colours.
The weight of a diamond is measured in carats and points; 100 points = 1 carat. The carat refers to the diamond weight and is a rough reflection of the overall size of the diamond (but not the quality of the diamond).
The ideal carat weight for an engagement ring will depend on the size of the wearer’s finger and your budget. Average diameter of 1 carat diamond is 6.5mm and a 2 carat diamond is 8.1mm.
Natural diamonds are the result of carbon exposed to tremendous heat and pressure deep in the earth. This process can result in a variety of internal characteristics called ‘inclusions’ and external characteristics called ‘blemishes.’
The evaluation of diamond clarity involves determining the number, size, relief, nature, and position of these characteristics, as well as how these affect the overall appearance of the stone. While no diamond is perfectly pure, the closer it comes, the higher its value.
At Savvy+Sand all our diamonds are hand sorted twice and are only selected if the diamond is eye clean by nature and includes (if any) inclusions which will not effect the diamond in its life. We specialise in clarity grades from Flawless to SI1 on the GIA scale.
