Analytical & Financial:

Prices will vary considerably between diamonds with identical 4Cs. We identify the best Colour, Clarity and Carat weight combination to optimise your budget and find diamonds that make “money and sense”.

Sourcing Impartially:

We have a large selection of exceptional diamonds to offer you, but we will go beyond our inventory to find the right ones to recommend you. We only propose the diamonds we really believe in and would buy for ourselves. We search far and wide, beyond the reach of most other jewellers, from any ethical source.

Uncompromised Grading:

We propose diamonds certified by the GIA, the reputed grading authority for the diamond trade worldwide. We will only propose diamonds certified by other laboratories if the grading is verified by us.

beyond the 4C’s

Diamonds are rare, the beautiful ones are unique.

Most jewellers focus solely on the 4Cs, simply because it is the basic knowledge most consumers gather and understand from their research. The 4Cs are universal diamond guidelines that were developed to grade and judge a diamond’s characteristics and therefore its price… it does not speak to a diamond’s beauty. While several diamonds will have identical 4Cs as listed on their GIA certificates and an identical price, when viewed side-by-side they will be incomparable in terms of beauty, also known as the “Make”. One diamond will always be more desirable than the others… that is the diamond we are looking for.

Beyond the Colour and Clarity consideration, the “Make” is the appreciation of the overall diamond’s proportions, cut, polish, symmetry, lustre and scintillation anyone can see. It is essentially the beauty the diamond projects and what makes the diamond remarkable and unique, beyond the 4Cs.

Selecting the finest “Make” and most desirable diamond is a matter of taste, experience and perseverance.… not analytically by its Colour, Clarity or measurements. This is what we propose at Savvy+Sand.

1. Cut

Diamonds are renowned for their ability to transmit light and scintillate so intensely. We often think of a diamond’s cut as a shape (round, emerald, pear..etc), but a diamond’s cut grade is really about how well a diamond’s facets interact with light.

Savvy+Sand only hand select diamonds that adhere to precision artistry and workmanship that is required to fashion a stone so its proportions, symmetry, and polish deliver the magnificent return of light only possible in a diamond. We recommend only diamonds cut with an Excellent or Very good cut grade.

2. COLOUR

The colour evaluation of most quality diamonds is based on the absence of colour. A pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, like a drop of pure water, and consequently, a higher value.

At Savvy+Sand we use the GIA D-to-Z colour-grading system which measures the degree of colourlessness in a diamond. Each diamond offered to our clients is compared under controlled lighting and precise viewing conditions to masterstones of established colour value.

Savvy+Sand specialise in white diamonds which exhibit grades from D to G and fancy coloured diamonds ranging in all colours.

3. CARAT WEIGHT

The weight of a diamond is measured in carats and points; 100 points = 1 carat. The carat refers to the diamond weight and is a rough reflection of the overall size of the diamond (but not the quality of the diamond).

The ideal carat weight for an engagement ring will depend on the size of the wearer’s finger and your budget. Average diameter of 1 carat diamond is 6.5mm and a 2 carat diamond is 8.1mm.

4. CLARITY

Natural diamonds are the result of carbon exposed to tremendous heat and pressure deep in the earth. This process can result in a variety of internal characteristics called ‘inclusions’ and external characteristics called ‘blemishes.’

The evaluation of diamond clarity involves determining the number, size, relief, nature, and position of these characteristics, as well as how these affect the overall appearance of the stone. While no diamond is perfectly pure, the closer it comes, the higher its value.

At Savvy+Sand all our diamonds are hand sorted twice and are only selected if the diamond is eye clean by nature and includes (if any) inclusions which will not effect the diamond in its life. We specialise in clarity grades from Flawless to SI1 on the GIA scale.
